Step back for a moment. Give yourself a pat on the back. You made it — we made it! — through another winter in the UpCountry. Spring has arrived and we’re finally getting out to stretch our legs and take in the warmer weather. And really that’s what this edition of UpCountry is all about: Go and do.
And we here have picked some of our favorite things to go and do this time of year. It so happens that our timing is perfect when it comes to the openings of the region’s farmers markets, and UpCountry contributor Francesca Shanks compiled quite the list of them throughout the Berkshires and Southern Vermont. So go now and visit them!
Speaking of lists, if you’re a golfer, you’re going to love Richard Lord’s tee-to-green compilation of the golf courses in the region. An expert golfer, Richard also assembled a list of perhaps the top 27 golf holes at courses throughout the Berkshires and Southern Vermont. Go take a swing and find your favorite.
If you have wanderlust, we give you Wanderlust. Kevin O’Connor opens the door on what is a truly unique event — a celebration of yoga, music and nature — this June at Stratton Mountain in Vermont. If hiking is your thing, Larry Parnass — who, for this edition of UpCountry, strode along with the gentleman who’s led the Williams College Outing Club for more than three decades — has put together five really good hiking suggestions. And if you just want a good ol’ cup of joe, our UpCountry coffee aficionado Jen Huberdeau trekked all over to visit some of our region’s best coffeehouses.
And lastly, there’s plenty to do this year at one of my favorite places. Lenox, Massachusetts, is turning 250 years old and is celebrating with numerous events in a town that is already home to so many splendid places, like Tanglewood, The Mount and Canyon Ranch. UpCountry contributor Clarence Fanto — a Lenox denizen — recaps the history of this wonderful town.
So what are you waiting for? Let’s go and do!
